MUFULIRA COUNCIL SEIZES ASSORTED ARTICLES FROM VARIOUS BUSINESS PREMISES IN THE CBD

Mufulira Municipal Council in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Mopani Copper Mines Health Department conducted routine food safety and hygiene inspections on 23rd and 24th August 2022, and seized assorted articles from various trading premises in the central business district. During the inspections, Public Health Inspectors discovered that a number of articles in the shops were expired, dented, bulged, defectively packaged, poorly stored, not of nature, substandard and quality as maybe demanded by the general public contrary to the provisions of Sections 7 and 8 of the Food Safety Act, no. 7 of 2019 and Section 44(3) of the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011 of the Laws of Zambia. And Mufulira Municipal Council Director of Public Health, Mr. Castrol Chisanga has cautioned the public to take keen interest in checking the expiry dates on food products before purchase and alert the Department of Public Health in case of any irregularities. He further warned the business community to desist from displaying and selling expired foodstuff to the unsuspecting public as they would be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Law. The Local Authority will intensify monitoring and inspections of premises in the district and seize all products deemed unfit for human consumption.
